The Ask

Cartoon Network Latin America was looking for an action-packed promo that would seamlessly merge the worlds of hit animated series Ben 10 and We Bare Bears. This unique cross-promotion would be used to promote the celebration of Children’s Day 2019.

The Challenge

Due to stylistic differences between the shows, our biggest challenge was figuring out how we were going to make these two universes collide. Our mission was to make a visually cohesive mash-up of original animation and existing footage that successfully remained true to the program characters and Cartoon Network brand guidelines.

 

The Result

To start, we created a fast-paced and dramatic edit reminiscent of an action movie trailer — even using black bars to emulate a widescreen, theatrical look. The animated segments take design cues from both shows, and combine a mixture of anime-inspired movement with glowy, halftone textures to give the characters their very own blockbuster treatment. With Adobe Illustrator locking down the look, we employed cinematic techniques via After Effects to end the promo with an epic 3D logo that just might inspire the next gen Michael Bay, but that is also a satisfying conclusion to this gripping faux trailer.
