The Ask

This Fall, WarnerMedia is pumpkin-spicing things up with their rollout of Fall-O-Ween: a curated block of fall-themed programming across The TNets (TBS, TNT, truTV). To celebrate the spookiness of the season, we were tasked with creating a :10 truTV Brand ID animation that follows the journey of a seemingly innocent acorn and its descent into the dark, unforgiving depths of the Fall food chain.

The Challenge

Knowing the outcome of this acorn’s story was going to be dark, we didn’t want the comedic aspects of the story to be overshadowed by sensational realism or gore. In order to achieve this, we needed to strike a balance with the photo-realistic backgrounds by giving the illustrations a more cartoony vibe.

 

The Result

Even in the realm of the living dead, it’s survival of the fittest. Using an unassuming acorn as a guide, the Brand ID sets up a pretense of innocence before revealing unexpected layers of prey vs. predator, which leads us into the blood-soaked network logo. We created each illustration in Adobe Photoshop and used After Effects for the animation and compositing.
